Her ‘Spousal Worth’ Just Went Up.
You might think I’m looking at this too cynically, but who are you to judge me? I do the judging around here, and today’s judgement is about Arfa Karim Randhawa, the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional in the world. She was nine when she got certified.

The young Pakistani girl seems happy enough in her documentary-ish photo, but I wonder what the true impact of her talent is. Will she pursue a career in computer science or will she be stifled by the customs of her land? Equality is a buzz word around here, but in India and Pakistan (and many more countries I’m sure) it’s more of a pipe dream. Maybe the press attention will help deconstruct a lot of the stereotypes here about Pakistani folk and there about females. Or maybe people will write her story off as a fruitless exception and go back to their intolerant ways.
I’m hopeful but not optimistic (yes, that’s allowed).
